Here at BrainStorm, we continuously look for ways that we can serve our community. Bi-monthly service activities give us a chance to get out of the office and do some good in the world. In March, we headed to the Olympic Oval in Salt Lake City. A large group of volunteers from BrainStorm headquarters went to the arena to set up for the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s (MDA) annual Muscle Walk Event.

Earlier this year, we were researching local opportunities to serve as part of our regular service projects, but this time around, the cause found us! Because they were aware of some of BrainStorm’s other service projects, they wanted to see if we were interested in volunteering. Of course we were! We spent the afternoon unloading trucks full of supplies, setting up tables and chairs, helping with decorations, assembling carnival games, and much more.

The MDA is the world’s leading nonprofit health agency dedicated to finding treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and other neuromuscular diseases. They do so by funding worldwide research; by providing comprehensive health care services and support to MDA families nationwide; and by rallying communities to fight back through advocacy, fundraising, and local engagement. The story of a Utah-based man struggling with ALS really touched those of us at BrainStorm and encouraged us to do all we could to help.

In addition to giving an afternoon of BrainStorm’s time to volunteer before the annual Muscle Walk, many of us PropellerHeads also attended a Utah Grizzlies Hockey game, where a portion of the ticket price would go to the MDA. Our Corporate Giving Committee also made a direct donation to the organization.
