Volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House

By Todd Kirk, April 13, 2016

Imagine that your child has a medical emergency. Now imagine that you have to travel across the country because the only specialist who can save your child's life is in a different state. The last thing you need to worry about is finding a place to sleep or even a toothbrush in a strange city.

That’s where the Ronald McDonald House comes in. Since 1980, the Ronald McDonald House has helped families find refuge and comfort when they are facing terrible circumstances. BrainStorm couldn't wait to offer service to our local Ronald McDonald House here in Utah.

Packing Care Packages

Many of the families who arrive to the Ronald McDonald House come with just the clothes on their backs. Not only are they given a room to stay while their child is receiving care, but the community provides soap, shampoo, razors, lotion, toys, and so much more to help ensure these families have a comfortable, stress-free stay. PropellerHeads helped pack care packages with some of these basic supplies so that families could feel welcome from the moment they set foot in the house.

A Clean Home Away from Home

The Ronald McDonald House provides amenities for the families staying with them, including food in the dining area, playgrounds to keep kids entertained, theatre rooms, and more. We spent time cleaning these spaces to help ensure that they were safe for children with compromised immune systems.

Organizing the Warehouse

Because the majority of the funding and services provided to the Ronald McDonald Houses are by volunteer efforts and donations, we spent time organizing their storage room. There is always a great need for supplies, and you can learn more about how you can help here.

The RonaldMcDonald House has local chapters in more than 60 countries and regions around the world. Learn more about how you can help support their great efforts by clicking here.
